How many teeth does a garden snail have? Each round asks a question whose answer is a number, and everyone enters their best guess. Then the real answer is revealed with its source, and all the guesses line up on a ruler.

The closer your guess, the more points you score, and an exact hit is worth 10,000. When the game ends, the player with the most points wins.

How to win

After the last round, the player with the highest total score wins. If totals are tied, the players share first place.

Bullseye rules

Every rule of the game, from scoring to how a game is won.

Overview

  • In Bullseye, every question is a trivia question whose answer is a whole number. You score by getting close to the answer, not by knowing it.
  • There are no roles or teams. Everyone answers the same question each round.
  • The host picks a pack. Each pack has 10 questions, they come in a shuffled order, and the game lasts 10 rounds.
  • A guess can contain digits only, so negative numbers and decimals can't be entered.

A round on everyone's phone

  • The same question and image appear on every phone. Type your guess and tap Submit Guess. A sent guess can't be changed.
  • After you submit, the button shows how many players have answered.
  • The round timer is 60 seconds by default, and a warning sound plays in the last 5 seconds. When time runs out, whatever number is in the box is sent automatically.
  • The round ends early once everyone has submitted.
  • The result screen shows the real answer, its source, everyone's guess on a ruler and the round points. The next question starts when everyone has tapped Continue.

A round on one phone

  • Player names are entered in the lobby. On the question screen, each player has their own guess row.
  • Pass the phone around. Each player types a guess in their own row and taps Lock. Until the results are shown, a guess can be unlocked and changed.
  • A locked guess is hidden, and only a lock icon stays in the row. While someone is typing, everyone else should look away.
  • There is no timer on one phone. See Results becomes active once everyone has locked. After the results, Next Question moves on; on the last question, the button says Overall Results instead.

Scoring

  • If your guess matches the answer exactly, you get 10,000 points and the Bullseye! badge. There is no other way to score 10,000.
  • Otherwise the error is worked out first: the difference between your guess and the answer, divided by the answer. If the answer is below 10, the difference is divided by 10 instead, so small misses on small answers aren't punished too hard.
  • Your score is 10,000 × e^(−2 × error), rounded to the nearest whole number. The bigger the error, the faster the score drops.
  • Guessing low is capped: any guess below the answer, even 0, scores at least 1,353. Guessing high has no such floor, and the score can fall all the way to 0.
  • Answer 100, guess 90 → 8,187 points.
  • Answer 100, guess 50 → 3,679 points.
  • Answer 100, guess 200 → 1,353 points.
  • Answer 100, guess 300 → 183 points.
  • Answer 3, guess 5 → 6,703 points.
  • A player who sends no guess scores 0 for that round. Your total is the sum of your round scores, with no bonuses or penalties. The maximum over 10 rounds is 100,000 points.

Winning and ties

  • After the last round, the player with the highest total score wins.
  • If totals are tied, the players share first place. There is no tie-breaker.
  • Nobody wins if every player ends on 0 points. Players who leave the game are ranked last and can't win.

Special cases

  • If the box is empty when time runs out, there is no guess and you score 0 for that round. Submitting an empty box has the same result.
  • If the host leaves, the game goes on: hosting passes at once to the next signed-in player. If the host loses connection, everyone is warned after 1 minute, and hosting passes on if they aren't back within 2 minutes.
  • If another player leaves, the game goes on without them. If fewer than 2 players are left, the game ends.
  • A player who disconnects stays in the game and scores 0 for any round where they sent no guess.

Host settings

  • Round Time: 30, 60 or 120 seconds, or Unlimited. The default is 60 seconds. This setting exists only when playing on everyone's phone.
  • Pack: the host picks any pack they have access to.
  • When the game ends, everyone votes to carry on by tapping New Game · Same Team. Once everyone has accepted, the host picks the next package and a new game starts in the same room.
  • Timers and point values may change in future updates.

Questions about Bullseye

How many players can play?

2 to 10 players.

Do we play on one phone or on everyone's phone?

Either works. On one phone, everyone types their guess in their own row on the same screen, with no timer. On everyone's phone, all players answer at the same time on their own screens, against the clock.

How long does a game take?

With the default 60-second rounds, 10 rounds take about 10–15 minutes. On one phone there is no timer, so you set the pace.

Is it safer to guess low or high?

Low is safer. Guessing half the answer scores 3,679, while guessing double scores only 1,353. If you're unsure, don't inflate your guess.
