How to play

  1. Look at the reference with its real size and the object next to it. The object starts at the same size as the reference.

Each round shows a reference with its real size on it (a person, a car, the Eiffel Tower…) next to an object whose size you don't know. Drag the object bigger or smaller until it looks right, then lock it in. At the end of the round, all guesses line up side by side and the true size is outlined in red.

The closer your guess, the more points you score, and landing within 3% is worth 10,000. Twice too big and half the size count as the same miss. When the game ends, the player with the most points wins.

How to win

After 10 rounds, the player with the highest total score wins. If totals are tied, the players share first place.

True Size rules

Every rule of the game, from scoring to how a game is won.

Overview

  • In True Size, every round pairs a reference with an object. The reference's real size is shown on screen, while the object's size stays hidden until the end of the round.
  • What is measured depends on the object: height, length, wingspan, diameter or width.
  • There are no roles or teams. Everyone plays on their own phone, and everyone sees the same scene each round.
  • The host picks a pack. Each pack has 10 rounds, played in the pack's order, so the game lasts 10 rounds.

How a round works

  • The reference and the object stand on the same ground line, drawn to the same scale. The object starts at the same size as the reference.
  • Drag the object up to make it bigger and down to make it smaller. You can also pinch with two fingers or use the slider under the scene.
  • The screen shows your guess's approximate size (for example ≈ 3.4 m) and its ratio to the reference. The object can grow up to 1,000 times the reference and shrink down to a thousandth of it.
  • Other players can't see the size you choose while you drag.
  • When you think you've found the right size, tap Lock. A locked size can't be changed, and the button shows how many players have locked.
  • The round timer is 60 seconds by default, and a warning sound plays in the final seconds. Just before time runs out, the size on your screen is locked automatically.
  • The round ends early once everyone has locked.
  • The result screen shows the object's name, its true size, a short note, the source, your guess and your points. On the stage, the reference, the true size outlined in red and everyone's guesses stand side by side from smallest to largest.
  • The Round and Overall tabs show the points. The next round starts when everyone has tapped Continue.

Scoring

  • First the ratio is worked out: the larger of your guess and the true size is divided by the smaller one. That way, twice too big and half the size both give a ratio of 2 and score the same.
  • If the ratio is 1.03 or less, meaning you're within about 3%, you score 10,000 points and the TRUE SIZE! badge.
  • If the ratio is between 1.03 and 100, your score is 10,000 × ratio^(−1.6), rounded to the nearest whole number.
  • If the ratio is 100 or more, you score 0.
  • Ratio 1.1, or 10% too big → 8,586 points.
  • Ratio 1.25, or 25% too big or 20% too small → 6,998 points.
  • Ratio 1.5 → 5,227 points.
  • Double or half (ratio 2) → 3,299 points.
  • 4 times too big or a quarter of the size (ratio 4) → 1,088 points.
  • 10 times too big or a tenth of the size (ratio 10) → 251 points.
  • A polar bear that is really 2.5 m long, left at the 1.75 m starting size → 5,651 points.
  • Your total is the sum of your round scores, with no bonuses or penalties. The maximum over 10 rounds is 100,000 points.

Winning and ties

  • After 10 rounds, the player with the highest total score wins.
  • If totals are tied, the players share first place. There is no tie-breaker.
  • If every player ends on 0 points, nobody wins. Players who leave the game are ranked last and can't win.

Special cases

  • If time runs out before you lock, the size on your screen is locked automatically. If you never touched the object, you're scored at its starting size, which is the reference's size.
  • If you lose your connection, the last size your phone sent counts. If no size was sent at all, you score 0 for that round. In timed rounds, the others wait for a disconnected player until time runs out.
  • If the host leaves, the game goes on: hosting passes at once to the next signed-in player. If the host loses connection, everyone is warned after 1 minute, and hosting passes on if they aren't back within 2 minutes.
  • If another player leaves, their guess for that round is removed and the game goes on without them. If fewer than 2 players are left, the game ends.

Host settings

  • Round Time: 30, 60 or 120 seconds, or Unlimited. The default is 60 seconds.
  • Pack: the host picks any pack they have access to.
  • When the game ends, everyone votes to carry on by tapping New Game · Same Team. Once everyone has accepted, the host picks the next package and a new game starts in the same room.
  • Timers and point values may change in future updates.

Questions about True Size

How many players can play?

2 to 10 players.

Can we play on one phone?

No. True Size is played only on everyone's own phone. Everyone sees the same scene on their own screen and picks a size without seeing anyone else's.

How long does a game take?

With the default 60-second rounds, 10 rounds take about 10–15 minutes.

What happens if I never touch the object?

When time runs out, the object is locked at its starting size, which is the reference's size, and you're scored on that. If the true size is close to the reference, that can still earn decent points.
